My favorite San Francisco walks
Golden Gate Park and the Outer Richmond District
We start at the Polo Field in Golden Gate Park. This vast open expanse has been converted into seven soccer fields. It offers a nice circular walk, and even on a sunny day like this, you'll hardly see anyone.
We pass JFK Drive and reach North Lake.
43rd Avenue and Anza Street. We go left on Anza to 44th Avenue.
A glimpse at the Richmond District, looking up 43rd Avenue.
We pass South Lake and turn north toward JFK Drive.
We're on Geary Boulevard looking down 44th Avenue toward Golden Gate Park.
Across the street is the most charming block of Geary Boulevard sitting between 43rd and 44th Avenue.
We go up another block to Point Lobos Avenue and continue toward Clement Street.
We turn east and pass the VA Hospital.
Still on Clement Street, looking east. The downtown high-rises stand against the Berkeley Hills.
35th Avenue takes us back into Golden Gate Park where we find Spreckels Lake.
The seagulls don't mind you, but squirrels do: they'll come hoping around in a little begging dance.
On the other side of Spreckels Lake, looking north toward the Richmond District.
Polo Field is now right behind us.
