My favorite San Francisco photos
Sitting in Golden Gate Park like a dinosaur in its nest, the de Young Museum surveys the Richmond District from the height of its observation tower. Twelve miles away, Mount Tamalpais rises 2571 feet above the Golden Gate.
Founded in 1895, the de Young Museum was damaged by the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake and closed down on December 31, 2000. The new de Young, designed by Herzog & de Meuron, was completed in 2005.
