The Blue Angels over Russian Hill
The aircraft is a $28 million F/A-18A Hornet. Top speed is 1400 mph, weight is 25,000 lbs, and in the course of the 90-minute show, it will burn about 1300 gallons of JP-5 jet fuel.
The water vapor cone, barely visible on the photos, is more noticeable on the video. The cone is created by the difference between the pressure fronts around the aircraft. As the pressure drops from high to low, the CO2 condenses and groups into bubbles.
Blue Angel 5 makes a 500 mph sneak-pass across the Golden Gate just 50 feet above the water.
